About Us

The Spiral Praxis Institute for
Bodymind Healing and Education

The Spiral Praxis Institute is a Toronto-based non-profit organization established in 2020 to serve the needs of people with disabilities around the world. We provide groundbreaking motor-based, somatic interventions that have been proven to significantly improve outcomes for people with conditions such as cerebral palsy or genetic disorders.

Our mission is to help both children and parents learn how to work with the body in order to improve motor functioning and overcome contractures, misalignment, spasticity and many other physical difficulties facing people with disabilities.

Founder Yuji Oka

Yuji graduated from the school of dance at Ohio State University (MA), with a background in physics from Cornell University (BA). He has been independently studying somatics and movement for over 30 years, and the Spiral Praxis Institute and its curricula are a product of his direct experience with children and adults all over the world.

Our Team

The Spiral Praxis Institute is run by a small but passionate group of dedicated staff. Andrew Hlavats and Pamela Andrews are both ASP instructors who have studied under Yuji Oka for the past 7 years, and are deeply committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities and special needs through bodymind.
