A Miracle Child Update: Aidan’s Biggest Fan

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

Good Evening Pamela, My name is Hannah, I’m 35 years old and I have spastic quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy…I just thought I’d message to say how lovely Aidans documentary is… I can really identify with Aidans story. I too have been undertaking a very intensive course of physiotherapy. I have only just recently learned to stand! I often think about you guys and when life gets tough I remember Aidan and how brave and how courageous he is! Best wishes Hannah

Aidan's documentary, A Miracle Child, continues to garner attention from people all around the world. A few months ago, Pamela received this inspiring message form a young woman named Hannah Shelmerdine. In her own featured documentary, Hannah is described as “a passionate, adventurous young woman with severe cerebral palsy, a group of permanent movement disorders that appear in early childhood. Her mobility and her vision are severely impaired and she needs round-the-clock care from support workers.” For Hannah, watching Aidan’s video was a way to experience her own healing journey through the body of another person. Like many people with CP, Hannah felt Aidan’s story resonated with her own aspirations to overcome her physical limitations.

Here is a 2nd letter she sent to Pamela to describe her feelings more fully:

Hi Pamela. I discovered Aidans documentary at the beginning of my physio therapy journey. I was in a lot of pain when I first started. I am undergoing the Bobath method, and I kept watching it over and over again, everytime I watched it there was a glimmer of hope. I had contractures at the hips and knees and had really bad back pain, but we’ve managed to release the contractures in my hip which has eased my back pain. Although my knees are still contracted they are better and I am able to stand now. I made a short documentary a few years ago about my sailing journey, I’ll send you the link so you can have a watch. In the video I am hoisted and have no core strength or balance, but that’s much improved since physio. Best wishes to you and your family 😀

Here are links to both children’s documentaries—we hope that you will be inspired by Aidan’s and Hannah’s remarkable stories 🙌
